We all have different motivations in our daily lives. Whether we realize it or not, we have goals in mind when we start our days. The difference is that some of us recognize these goals that we set while others simply go about their day.

But setting goals can actually be hugely beneficial to daily life. Here is the importance (and the benefits) of setting daily goals.

Assessment

If you are not setting goals, then you kind of don’t know where things stand. When you have those goals, though, you take stock of where you are. Goals will oftentimes be intertwined between short- and long-term.

By having daily goals, you can perform a self-assessment to give yourself a better idea of where you stand in the grander scheme of things.

Provides Direction

It can be all too easy to aimlessly wander through a day. When that happens, productivity suffers and the “to-do” list piles up. But setting goals not only provides a sense of clarity about what needs doing, it provides direction as well.

Know where you want to be and you will see the path for getting there. Moreover, it gives individuals a purpose each day. When you know you have to get A through E done, it helps take your mind off the doldrums of the day and provides purpose.

Happiness

For some it may seem like having daily goals means having things that need doing. But setting goals also provides a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Think about any other goal that you may have set in the past. How did you feel when it was done?

For most, achieving and finishing goals feels good. That sense of accomplishment is more than enough to propel us forward, taking on new challenges and goals along the way. Having goals, attainable goals, and achieving them is a proven way to improve satisfaction and happiness in life. It also provides a sense of purpose, eliminating those feelings of wastefulness or lack of drive.
