Whether it’s for a job opening or a podcast, knowing how to conduct a good job interview is always a good skill to have. Interviews are a great way to get to know someone while also having a good time. An interview is more than just asking questions, however. At the end of the day, you want the person who you are interviewing to be able to let their personality shine through. To make sure you give the best interview possible, be sure to follow these tips and tricks.
- Do Some Homework Beforehand
Before going into an interview, try to do as much research as you can on the person you are interviewing. This is so that you can make sure to ask all the right questions and so that you can create questions for that person accordingly.
- Ask Open-Ended Questions
The questions you ask are what will determine whether or not an interview is successful. You want to avoid asking yes or no questions as much as possible while also coming up with a few follow-up questions. Your questions should serve as a template for the interview, but it doesn’t mean you have to stick to them.
- Create a Welcoming Environment
If you want to get good answers from someone, you should make sure you are creating a welcoming environment for them so that they’re as comfortable as possible. The more comfortable your interview subject is, the better their answers will be.
- Be a Good Listener
Always make sure to remember that the point of an interview is to get to know the other person, not for you to spew out your opinions. It’s good to engage in conversation, but ultimately you want to let your interviewee do all the talking. Don’t interrupt them while they’re talking and allow them to share their story.
You also want to make sure you don’t drift off while this person is talking regardless of whether or not you’re interested in what they have to say.
